The III’s Michael Barry briefs our membership every week on key insurance related stories. Here are some highlights:
- At least 41 people died this month because of the northern California wildfires, and nearly 6,000 structures were either destroyed or damaged. The I.I.I. issued a news release on the event’s insurance implications on Tuesday, October 17.
- The death toll has risen to 14 people at the Hollywood, Florida, senior-care facility where a power outage occurred after Hurricane Irma made landfall last month.
- The explosion last week at an off-shore oil well about 40 miles southeast of Venice, Louisiana, released nearly 10,000 barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, making it one of the largest events of its type since 2010’s BP disaster.
