Analysis of the Missouri Department of Insurance Credit Scoring Study
An Insurance Information Institute analysis of a January 2004 study by the Missouri Department of Insurance examining the relationship between credit scores and minority status and income has found that the Department’s study has serious and substantial flaws, appears biased in its assumptions and is unsupported by basic facts regarding the availability and affordability of insurance. The study’s opinions imply that the MDOI is prepared to eliminate the credit-related discounts currently offered by insurers to thousands of minority families living in Missouri as well as to homeowners and drivers throughout the state. The study also indicates that the MDOI is preparing to strip away discounts that insurers give to people who file few claims and force individuals with the best records to subsidize drivers and homeowners who impose the greatest costs on everyone else.
