This PowerPoint report, presented at the Ole Mississippi Insurance Symposium at the University of Mississippi by Robert Hartwig, president of the Insurance Information Institute, reviews the insurance market in Mississippi in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The presentation provides an overview of catastrophe risk and losses nationwide before focusing on Mississippi. Mississippi accounted for 33.5 percent of Katrina related insured losses ($13.6 billion) and 29.5 percent of claims (515,000). The presentation also includes a preview of the 2008 hurricane season, an overview of the Mississippi insurance market and a discussion of flood insurance issues.
