Ray Stone
Vice President, Catastrophe Management
Travelers

Ray Stone has been in the claims industry for more than 30 years. Since joining Travelers in 1974 in Rochester, New York, he has moved up through the ranks, managing such lines of business as no-fault and subrogation at the firm’s base in Hartford, Connecticut.

In 1992, Mr. Stone directed the company’s subrogation effort during Hurricane Andrew, helping Travelers to become the first company to successfully recover significant funds from the developers and contractors who had built hundreds of Florida structures outside of code. In 1993 he assumed responsibility for catastrophe management. He directed the creation of a corporate catastrophe response plan that has earned high acclaim from insurance commissioners, agents and brokers, and customers, and is considered a model for the industry.

Seasoned by dozens of major hurricanes and other disasters, he continues to work with the catastrophe management team to improve operational results and boost service levels beyond customer expectations.
