2008: A Make or Break Year for the P/C Insurance Industry?
This PowerPoint report, presented by Robert Hartwig, president of the Insurance Information Institute, at the Annual Issues Symposium of the National Council on Compensation Insurance, looks at what the current year holds in store for the property/casualty (P/C) insurance industry. The presentation focuses on the weakening economy and its impacts and implications for insurance, a summary of the Treasury Department’s “blueprint” and its impact on insurers, profitability, underwriting trends, premium growth, rising expenses and presidential politics and P/C profitability, among other issues. It concludes with a summary of major challenges facing the P/C insurance industry, including a slow growth environment ahead, maintaining discipline and managing the variability and volatility of financial results.
