Insuring Michigan's Future : A Look at the Economic lmpact of the Insurance Industry

This PowerPoint report, presented by Robert Hartwig, president of the Insurance Information Institute, focuses on the contribution that the insurance industry makes to Michigan’s economy. Slides show the economic importance of both Michigan’s property/casualty and life/health insurance segments in terms of employment, wages and taxed paid. A section of the report discusses the financial strength and stability of the insurance industry and its performance during and after the “Great Recession.” Insurers’ role as a institutional investors is highlighted. The report concludes with a review of regulatory and legislative issues in the state. A summary notes that insurers now account for nearly 4 percent of economic activity in Michigan and the industry employs more than 72,000 people, among other pertinent data.
