Is the World Becoming a Riskier Place? Focus On Energy Insurance Markets

SPONSORED BY

This PowerPoint report, presented by Robert Hartwig, president of the Insurance Information Institute, looks at current global risk and uncertainty and its impact on energy insurance markets. The presentation begins with a review of recent economic and political concerns and catastrophic events. It explains that while economic growth and corresponding growth in energy demand is much greater in the developing world, these areas are riskier to operate in. The report demonstrates how, with this growth, oil demand will rise and oil prices will rise still faster and highlights the exploration and distribution risks that abound. The presentation includes sections focusing on catastrophe loss developments and trends globally, in Europe and in the U.S. and provides a global energy market overview that discusses supply (production), demand (consumption) and rate considerations, and includes a discussion of the post-Deepwater Horizon environment. The report also contains a discussion of carbon emissions and the nuclear power industry.
