This PowerPoint presentation by Jeanne Salvatore, senior vice president of the Insurance Information Institute, reports on how hurricanes can be effective teachers for explaining the importance of having the right type and amount of insurance protection, especially for those residing in coastal U.S. states.  In addition, in this presentation to the National Hurricane Conference in Orlando, Florida, Salvatore focused on the necessity of building stronger homes, and steps consumers can take to enhance their property’s structural integrity.   Hurricanes Ike (2008) and Katrina (2005) are fresh in the public’s mind, giving the insurance industry and governmental organizations an opportunity to educate consumers about the risks posed by natural disasters, Salvatore added.
