SPONSORED BY

This PowerPoint report, presented by Robert Hartwig, president of the Insurance Information Institute, at the Hawaii Insurers Council Annual Meeting, provides an overview of the property/casualty (P/C) insurance industry, with a focus on Hawaii. In a section dealing with profitability and growth in Hawaii P/C insurance markets, which includes an analysis by line and a comparison with West Coast states, the presentation notes that P/C insurer profitability in Hawaii has been above that of the U.S. overall for the past decade – with a return on net worth of 20.5 percent for Hawaii, compared with 7.0 percent for the U.S., due in part to the absence of any major catastrophes. The report also includes sections reviewing recent global events that are affecting the P/C insurance industry, summarizing P/C financial performance, discussing global and U.S. catastrophe loss developments and trends, reviewing underwriting loss trends and focusing on other factors contributing to the underwriting cycle: the investment environment, the tort/casualty environment, inflation and economic environment.
