Dr. Robert P. Hartwig, CPCU
June 11, 2014

This PowerPoint report, presented by Robert Hartwig, president of the Insurance Information Institute, provides an overview of the U.S. property/casualty (P/C) insurance industry, with a focus on the construction sector. Noting that the construction industry is critical to the economy and the P/C insurance industry, the presentation reports that the U.S. is experiencing a beneficial mini manufacturing renaissance. In a section on the energy sector, the future of the oil and gas industries is characterized as bright, but both domestic demand and exports are key. The need for infrastructure investment is also discussed. Other sections in the report include discussions of labor market trends and the workers compensation operating environment. A P/C insurance industry financial overview, a U.S. insured catastrophe loss update, an outlook for the 2014 Atlantic hurricane season and a terrorism update, among other sections, are also included.
