NEW YORK, July 27, 2015 — Reporters interested in interviewing auto insurance experts are encouraged to contact the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.).

“Insurers use underwriting criteria that directly correlate with losses,” points out Dr. Robert Hartwig, the I.I.I.’s president and an economist, adding that the criteria used by insurers have been demonstrated for decades to be predictive of loss and are reviewed and approved by state insurance regulators.  “Auto insurance is a highly competitive business and most people find they have an array of policy options, at various prices, to choose from.  Consumers concerned about the price of their auto insurance are encouraged to shop around to find the policy that best suits their needs and budget,” said Hartwig.

James Lynch, the I.I.I.’s chief actuary, and Dr. Hartwig, are available to discuss the rating factors U.S. auto insurers employ when pricing their policies.

Reporters who would like to speak with either one of them can set up an appointment by calling or emailing Michael Barry, vice president, media relations, I.I.I., at 212-346-5542, michaelb@iii.org
