2010 Half-Year Natural Catastrophe Update Webinar: Munich Re

This Webinar consists of three presentations, followed by a question and answer period. The first presentation, made by Carl Hedde, head of Risk Accumulation at Munich Reinsurance America, offers an update of natural catastrophes in the U.S., including a review of winter storms, thunderstorms, major flood events and earthquakes. The second presentation, offered by Peter Höppe, head of Geo Risks Research/Corporate Climate Center at Munich Reinsurance Company, focuses on global natural catastrophes, with slides showing the number and distribution of natural disasters in the first half of the year, among other present and historical statistics. The third presentation by Robert Hartwig, president of the Insurance information Institute, discusses the economic implications of natural catastrophe losses and includes a special discussion of the Deepwater Horizon disaster. Slides look at insurer financial performance, capital and policyholders’ surplus, and financial strength and ratings. It concludes with a discussion of the historical lessons that can be learned from hurricanes and oils spills.
