This is Jeanne Salvatore, senior vice president and consumer spokesperson at the Insurance Information Institute.
What follows are two radio actualities on car rental insurance.
Sound bite one:
“Before you rent a car this summer, you need to make two phone calls.
First, call your auto insurance company. Whatever coverage you have on your own car will apply when you rent a car, providing it is for pleasure and not for business.
Second, call the credit card company you plan to use to pay for the rental car. Insurance coverage and exclusions will vary from card to card.”
Sound bite two:
“Before you rent a car this summer, you need to make two phone calls–one to your insurance company and another to the credit card company you plan to use to rent the car.”
