NEW YORK, July 19, 2007 — New Yorkers who live or work near the site of last night’s steam pipe explosion in mid-town Manhattan should contact their insurance agent to determine whether they’re covered for damages they incurred because of the incident, according to the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.).

The following lines of insurance may offer some level of financial protection to those who suffered economic losses near Manhattan’s Grand Central Station, depending upon each individual policy’s contractual terms:

  • Personal auto and property
  • Commercial auto, property and liability
  • Business interruption
Reporters wishing to discuss these issues with an I.I.I. expert should contact Michael Barry at 212-346-5542 (or via email: michaelb@iii.org).

For more information on property/casualty insurance, go to the I.I.I. Web site at: http://www.iii.org .

The I.I.I. is a nonprofit, communications organization supported by the insurance industry.
