This PowerPoint report, presented by Robert Hartwig, president of the Insurance Information Institute, at the RIMS Annual Meeting in Boston, analyzes the role of trade credit insurance in the these times of global economic upheaval. The presentation shows how the financial crisis and credit market woes have continued to impact trade credit, with an emphasis on exchange rates, inflation, interest rates and political risk. Major business risks influencing trade credit are discussed. The presentation notes that the financial crisis has increased demand for trade credit insurance cover and that insurers have become more transparent and are sharing more information. The report concludes that exposures are on the rise but premium growth is lagging, and highlights alternatives for insurance buyers.
