NEW YORK, November 20, 2014 — To help educate and empower consumers, the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.) announces the launch of a new educational email program: Check20.

Check20 is a call to consumers, encouraging them to spend some time on a regular basis— just 20 minutes—getting to know what’s in their home, auto, and life insurance policies. Armed with this knowledge, readers then can assess how insurance fits within their personal financial goals and have a more productive conversation with their Insurance Professional about getting the coverage that best fits their needs and budget.

The concept of insurance is simple enough, but the details can sometimes be bewildering. While breaking down complex concepts, and eliminating financial jargon, with a simple, engaging approach, Check20 uses timely tips, video, infographics and other features to guide consumers through important information about their insurance policies.

“Consumers have their ‘points of pain,’” says James Ballot, director, Digital Communications for the I.I.I. “We often get questions, like ‘what’s covered,’ ‘how much insurance do I need’, or ‘what’s the best way to get more value from my insurance.’ I.I.I. is an independent, non-profit organization.  We devised Check20 to provide a steady stream of handy tips and helpful strategies to make insurance work better year-round, instead of just when people need to file a claim. ”

#Check20 email newsletters are sent out weekly—and subscriptions are free. Sign-up at: www.iii.org/check20.

“The mission of the Insurance Information Institute is to educate the public about insurance—what it is and how it works,” notes Andréa C. Basora, Executive Vice President of the I.I.I. “And what better way to reach consumers making important decisions about their financial plans than to land in their inbox with the information they need most.”
