NEW YORK, January 7, 2014 — The latest edition of the Insurance Information Institute’s (I.I.I.) popular Insurance Fact Book is now available. Regarded as the most comprehensive and authoritative resource of its kind, the Fact Book is a go-to resource for reporters, businesses, regulators, legislators, researchers, students and anybody who needs to understand the insurance industry.

“The I.I.I. remains a vital source for the media and the public, which rely on the I.I.I.’s expanding suite of information products and its expert staff for objective, credible, timely information,” said Dr. Robert P. Hartwig, CPCU, economist and president of the I.I.I.

The Insurance Fact Book includes hundreds of statistical tables and charts documenting the size and composition of the insurance industry, including information on the auto and home insurance markets; commercial insurance (workers compensation, liability insurance, mortgage guaranty and financial guaranty insurance); cost drivers (litigation, fraud and medical costs and other factors); and catastrophes (including hurricanes, earthquakes, terrorism and other disasters).

The Fact Book can be purchased by calling 212-346-5500, via email at publications@iii.org or from the I.I.I.’s online store at www.iii.org/store. Discounts are available for member companies or for multiple copies. A PDF of the I.I.I.’s flagship publication can be downloaded online and a Kindle version will be available shortly from Amazon.

Also available are the latest editions of two other I.I.I. publications:

  • A Firm Foundation: How Insurance Supports the Economy, a free, 20-page illustrated brochure that explains the insurance industry’s role as a key driver of employment and capital markets, and as a source of financial security and income to individuals and local businesses through the payment of claims. The brochure includes a wide array of charts and tables as well as a special tool that generates state specific compilations. The brochure can be ordered via email at publications@iii.org or by calling 212-346-5500. A PDF can be downloaded here.

  • Impact magazine, published bi-annually, highlights the role played by the insurance industry in supporting and developing the communities it serves from coast to coast. It also notes that insurers are the economic first responders in times of disaster, helping people and communities recover and rebuild after hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, and other events. The companion website (www.iii.org/impact) is updated regularly to inform readers about the industry’s latest charitable initiatives.
