October 2005’s Wilma was the last major hurricane (Category 3, or higher) to make landfall in Florida, causing at the time $10.3 billion in insured property damage, a sum equal today to more than $12 billion. Wilma is the fifth costliest natural disaster in U.S. history, as defined by the dollar amounts of the insured claim payouts.
