This PowerPoint report, presented by Robert Hartwig, president of the Insurance Information Institute, at NAMIC’s 115th Annual Convention, analyzes the reasons that some insurance companies have managed to remain in existence for over 100 years while others fail. Sections focus on parallels that exist between longevity in the business world and in the natural world, characteristics of firms that stand the test of time, including a chart showing the world’s oldest insurance companies by age and country; P/C centenarians; and why insurers fail. Other sections deal with lessons for insurers from the financial crisis and the top challenges for the decade ahead.
