“Dr. Weisbart is the first person to receive an Honorary Merit Award from NAMIC,” stated Tonya Suits, the Indianapolis, Indiana-based managing director of NAMIC’s Merit Society. “Our board reviewed his educational and business credentials, and believed Dr. Weisbart was an excellent first choice for this honor.”

NAMIC’s Merit Society bestows Merit Awards annually to “individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to life-long education, professional development and service at a NAMIC-affiliated company.” The Merit Society convenes each year at NAMIC’s annual convention to recognize new award recipients, network and hear engaging guest speakers.

Dr. Weisbart is being given the Honorary Merit Award this afternoon at NAMIC’s Merit Award luncheon, at The Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, in National Harbor, Maryland, where he is the Merit Society’s guest speaker. His topic: Financial Illiteracy and Its Effect on the Property/Casualty Insurance Industry.

“I’m humbled by this great honor, and appreciate the outstanding work the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies’ Merit Society has done to promote life-long education, professional development and community service,” Dr. Weisbart stated.

Before coming to the I.I.I. in 2005, Dr. Weisbart served as a vice president at Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association—College Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA-CREF) in New York and, earlier in his career, was an associate professor of insurance at Georgia State University.
