NEW YORK - June 19, 2003 -- The Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.) has formed an alliance with Terra.com, the U.S. Hispanic portal of the Terra Lycos Network, to connect Spanish-speaking consumers with insurance companies in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

The I.I.I.'s "Find an Insurance Company" web-tool is now available in Spanish on the "Mi Dinero" section of www.terra.com. This tool allows consumers to select the state they live in and the type of insurance they are looking for. A random list of insurance companies will be displayed with links directly to the individual company Web sites.

"Our mission as an organization is to improve public understanding of insurance -- what it is and how it works," states John Spagnuolo, the I.I.I.'s Director of New Media. "Hispanics represent the fastest growing segment of insurance consumers."

According to comScore Media Metrix, the U.S. Hispanic online population, which comprises approximately one third of the total U.S. Hispanic population, is (as of January 2003) 11 percent larger than the total online population of Spain, and 4 percent larger than the total online population of Mexico, Argentina and Colombia combined.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Hispanic population has increased by 57.9 percent, from 22.4 million in 1990 to 35.3 million in 2000. This is compared to a 13.2 percent increase in the total U.S. population.

The Terra network of Web sites attracts more U.S. Hispanic users than any other Spanish language Internet site or network of sites, according to comScore Media Metrix Hispanic Services.

The Insurance Information Institute is a non-profit organization recognized by the media, government agencies, regulators, universities and the public as a primary source of information, analysis and referral concerning insurance. Each year, the I.I.I. works on more than 3,700 news stories, handles more than 6,000 requests for information and answers nearly 50,000 questions from consumers. (www.iii.org or www.insurance.info)
