NEW YORK, October 30, 2012 — Policyholders with questions regarding their coverage for damage caused by Hurricane Sandy should call the phone number provided on their policy or contact their insurance agent. Those policyholders unable to get to their policies can contact special toll-free numbers set up by insurance companies, according to the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.).

To make finding the contact information for your insurance company easier, the I.I.I. has compiled a list: Insurance Company Claims Filing Telephone Numbers.

“Keep in mind that due to high call volume in the wake of a disaster, it may take some time to get through on some numbers—so please be patient,” said Jeanne Salvatore, senior vice president of Public Affairs with the I.I.I.

For more information on filing a claim, the Insurance Information Institute has a free brochure, Settling Insurance Claims after a Disaster.

The I.I.I. has a full library of educational videos on its You Tube Channel. Information about I.I.I. mobile apps can be found here.
