NEW YORK, June 10, 2008 - The U.S. House of Representatives' hearing today on the Insurance Information Act of 2008 (H.R. 5840) may prompt renewed interest in regulatory modernization issues and proposals to create an optional federal charter, according to the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.).

The measure would create a federal Office of Insurance Information within the U.S. Treasury Department to provide insurance policy advice and expertise to the executive branch and Congress. The U.S. House subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance and Government Sponsored Enterprises is convening its public hearing on the Insurance Information Act of 2008 on Tuesday, June 10 at 10 a.m. The hearing will be held at 2128 Rayburn House Office Building, Washington, D.C.
