— Knowing more about insurance—how it works and how it fits into your life—can provide confidence at times when you need it most. With that goal in mind, the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.) has upgraded its Florida website to provide consumers with an easy-to-use resource for personal insurance topics.
The website, www.InsuringFlorida.org, has been redesigned with an emphasis on helping consumers understand how to talk with their insurance agent and to help them identify the types of insurance protection they need. It also offers tips on how to save money on insurance. Topics are organized by types of insurance: Homeowners and Renters, Auto, Life and Business. Under these headings, Floridians will find questions and answers to help them engage in informed conversations with their insurance agent or company representative in order to build an insurance program that covers their unique situation, and adapts to the changes in that situation over time.
“Insurance is not a ‘once and done’ purchase,” said Lynne McChristian, Florida representative for the I.I.I. “As your life, financial situation and family responsibilities change, your insurance should reflect those changes to provide appropriate levels of protection.”
In addition to providing knowledge on how to build a good insurance program, the Insuring Florida website features an insurance blog geared toward consumers. As the I.I.I. is a nonprofit, non-lobbying organization, the blog strives to build understanding of the issues, rather than advocate for a certain point of view. Consumers interested in news related to the business of insurance will also find links to timely articles, reports and research on the site.
In addition to the website, the Florida office of the I.I.I. uses a variety of other social media tools to assist consumers in understanding insurance coverage. The InsuringFlorida Twitter account, @InsuringFLA, and Facebook Page,
Insuring Florida, both provide the latest information to consumers, and will also be employed in the event of a hurricane to help guide people through the insurance claims process.
The I.I.I. was founded in 1960 and is supported by the insurance industry. In 2008, the I.I.I. established a representative in Florida to serve as a resource for media and consumers on issues related to the complex insurance challenges in the state. The I.I.I. also has a Florida-based representative for Hispanic media.
THE I.I.I. IS A NONPROFIT, COMMUNICATIONS ORGANIZATION SUPPORTED BY THE PROPERTY/CASUALTY INSURANCE INDUSTRY.
