Supported by a membership of some 500 representing 34 states, the library facilitates insurance reference and research work for members as well as for consumers and students. I particular, they have textbooks, manuals and insurance legal treatises and often provide company financial reliability data to consumers. An index of insurance-related journals is maintained. Seventy percent of the consumer calls are from Massachusetts, and thirty percent of the calls come from outside the state. A specialty for consumers is tracing insurance companies who changed their names or merged into other companies so that policyholders may "find" their coverage. The library also offers courses and seminars on insurance topics.
