FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE New York Press Office: (212) 346-5500; media@iii.org
NEW YORK, August 24, 2015 — A decade after Hurricane Katrina and nearly three years after Hurricane Sandy, many consumers nationwide lack the basic insurance knowledge to protect their assets in the event of a major natural disaster, according to the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.). As part of its mission to educate the public about insurance, the I.I.I. is partnering with WXTV Univision 41 to host a Spanish-language helpline on Tuesday, August 25, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The campaign will provide information to consumers about auto, home, renters, flood and business insurance. The calls will be answered by bilingual volunteers from the I.I.I. and members of the Latin Agents and Brokers Association (L.A.B.A.). These experts can provide reliable insurance information, such as how to purchase the right types and amounts of coverage.
WXTV Univision 41 news programs and segments, including 41 a Tu Lado, regularly inform and empower consumers with information on these issues. The event will be live-tweeted and consumers can submit questions via Twitter; to participate, follow @iiiorg, @iii_enespanol and @noticias41NY and use the hashtag #Asegurate.
The I.I.I. is a nonprofit, non-lobbying, research and communications organization whose mission is to improve public understanding of insurance—what it does and how it works. The I.I.I. provides extensive insurance information in Spanish, free downloadable mobile apps and educational videos.
L.A.B.A. is a nonprofit insurance trade association supporting insurance agents and brokers whose customers are primarily Hispanics. For more information, visit: www.golaba.org.
THE I.I.I. IS A NONPROFIT, COMMUNICATIONS ORGANIZATION SUPPORTED BY THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY.
