James P. Lynch Elected to Casualty Actuarial Society Board of Directors

NEW YORK, October 2, 2017 — The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) recently announced the election of James P. Lynch, FCAS, to its Board of Directors for a three-year term beginning in November 2017. Lynch currently serves as vice president of research and education and chief actuary at the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.). He is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Lynch began his career in the field of journalism, serving as a full-time journalist in both Missouri and Florida prior to pursuing an actuarial career path. Lynch’s past actuarial positions include senior vice president and chief actuary for QBE the Americas and senior vice president and chief reserving actuary for White Mountains Reinsurance of America.

Lynch has been a member of the CAS for over 15 years, earning his Associateship in 1999 and his Fellowship in 2001. He is a member of the CAS Public Relations Advisory Committee and the CAS Auto Loss Cost Trends Working Party. He also previously served on the CAS Examination Committee from 2013 to 2015. Lynch is a frequent contributor to Actuarial Review, the bi-monthly magazine of the CAS.

Lynch earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism at the University of Missouri and a master’s degree in journalism at Indiana University. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in statistics at Florida International University.
