NEW YORK, April 18, 2017— Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.) subject matter experts are among the featured participants in workshops and training sessions at the 2017 National Hurricane Conference, which began yesterday at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans.

The conference includes topics designed to educate attendees about how insurance coverage works to help strengthen disaster preparedness and resiliency.

The I.I.I.’s Chief Engagement Officer Jeanne M. Salvatore and Florida Representative Lynne McChristian will be available for media interviews beginning Tuesday, April 18 through Thursday, April 20. Salvatore and McChristian are available to discuss how individuals and business owners can insure against hurricanes, floods and other disasters, claims filing and steps that coastal residents can take to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season.

The I.I.I.’s participation will begin with a panel on the history and impact of hurricanes on Tuesday, April 18. The panel, featuring Bryan Norcross, hurricane specialist for The Weather Channel, a Red Cross representative and the I.I.I.’s Lynne McChristian, will discuss the impact of Hurricane Andrew and its lasting effects on the insurance marketplace in the U.S., particularly in Florida. McChristian, who previously authored a white paper about Hurricane Andrew, will talk about the consequences of the historic storm which struck nearly 25 years ago in 1992.

To close I.I.I.’s participation for the conference, on Thursday, April 20, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., Salvatore will make a presentation on flood insurance where she will discuss the importance of purchasing flood insurance coverage, as well as outline recent changes to FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
