Fresno, Calif., July 30, 2019 —The Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.) will be in attendance tomorrow (Wednesday, July 31) when reporters drive controlled courses at California State University, Fresno while wearing one of the Ford Motor Company’s Drugged Driving suits.

Janet Ruiz, the I.I.I.’s Director, Strategic Communications, is available for interviews tomorrow—between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m., at Fresno State’s Save Mart Center parking lot—to discuss the insurance implications of driving while impaired. Ford's Drugged Driving suit simulates what a driver experiences when under the influence of alcohol and other drugs. The suit was incorporated into Ford's Driving Skills for Life program in 2003.

The I.I.I. issued earlier this year a white paper called A Rocky Road So Far: Recreational Marijuana and Impaired Driving. It explored marijuana impairment’s impact on a motorist’s driving abilities, how states deal with marijuana-impaired motorists, and marijuana’s broader implications for U.S. roadway safety.

The AAA Foundation has identified the days between Memorial Day and Labor Day as the 100 Deadliest Days behind the wheel for teens and young adults. The I.I.I. has joined forces with leaders in government and the insurance industry to transform the 100 Deadliest Days into 100 Days of Safer Driving. Spanish-speaking spokespersons will be at tomorrow's event.
