FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New York Press Office: (212) 346-5500; media@iii.org
NEW YORK, April 19, 2016 —The Insurance Information Institute’s (I.I.I.) subject matter experts can discuss with reporters the coverage issues arising out of this week’s Houston-area flooding as well as the severe hail storms which have hit Texas over the past month.
Flood damage is not covered under standard homeowners, renters and business insurance policies. Flood coverage is available, however, as a separate policy from FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and from a few private insurers. Hail damage is covered under standard homeowners, renters and business insurance policies.
For vehicles, flooding and hail is covered under the optional comprehensive coverage available with a standard auto insurance policy. Nearly four out of five drivers choose to purchase comprehensive coverage.
Lynne McChristian, the I.I.I.’s Florida media representative, is in San Antonio, Texas, today (Tuesday) and can be reached via cell phone, 813-480-6446, or email: lynnem@iii.org.
Reporters can also contact these New York-based I.I.I. spokespeople for either information or interviews:
